“Block Printing”

Ages 12 and up

In this hands-on workshop, acclaimed illustrator Stephen Savage guides participants through the tactile world of block printing using a streamlined three-step process: research and image exploration, precision carving, and final printing. This multi-day format allows for a deeper dive into the “reductive” technique, a creative method where carving and printing happen simultaneously to produce sophisticated color combinations. Using materials such as soft “Speedy Carve” blocks and water-based inks, students will transform their original drawings into vibrant, multi-layered prints on acid-free paper.

Materials needed
“Speedy Carve” from Speedball (nice and soft)
Speedball water-based ink
Linocutters
paper (will be provided)
Basic tools (will be provided)
