Explore how a few carefully chosen colors can bring a face to life.
This approachable introduction to portrait painting begins with a front-facing reference and a limited palette. We’ll break the face into simple shapes, explore basic proportions and feature placement, and learn how light and shadow give a portrait its depth.
Artist Kristina Dubrovskaia will guide you step by step, helping you mix colors, build light and dark areas, and develop an expressive portrait study. You’ll receive individual feedback throughout, with space to experiment and make your own color choices.
You’ll leave with a small oil portrait study and a clearer understanding of how to begin painting a face.
All materials and references are provided. Beginners and painters with some experience are welcome.
